God Grows You For Your Giants
Thursday - April 23rd
Today's Scripture to Read: 1 Samuel 17:32-37
So, this COVID-19, Coronavirus, pandemic seems to be dragging us farther into the unknown. While all of us face some of the same factors (face masks, home confinement, hand sanitizer), we all are being affected personally and financially in different ways. Maybe what you face seems like a huge obstacle or an undefeatable giant. Perhaps you feel completely unprepared to handle what you face.
When I was a kid, I heard an old preacher say, "The will of God will never take you where the power of God cannot keep you." Over the last few weeks, I have thought of that quote often. It is not just a nice thought. It is a biblical principle. God prepares us through circumstances today to empower us for tougher circumstances tomorrow. God took 100 years to prepare Abraham to be the Father of the Nation of Israel. He took eighty years to prepare Moses for his leadership of that nation from Egypt to the promised land. God uses time and circumstances to prepare His children for the challenges they will face later.
Just before the famous battle between David and Goliath, King Saul told David there was no way he could take on the warrior giant. Saul explained Goliath had been a warrior since he was a kid, and that David was just a kid. David, however, told the King that God had prepared him for this moment. He told Saul about his past as a shepherd boy on the hills of Judea.
David explained two dangerous shepherding experiences - one when a bear attacked his sheep and another that involved an attacking lion. He explained how God had given him the strength and wisdom to defeat the bear and the lion. Those occasions in his past had prepared him for that moment. Saul could not argue with David and sent him out to fight the giant. The rest, as they say, is history.
Like David, God prepared you for what you will face in the days ahead. You may not feel ready, but as you trust God, you will be. Look back at God's faithfulness in your life. Maybe you don't see a lion or a bear. But, if you look carefully, you will see the hand of God that has brought you to this place, and that same hand will take you forward. No matter how challenging your life gets, God prepared you for what you will face and will empower you to face it. God grows you for your giants!
God prepares you to handle what others might say you are not ready to handle.
