God's Best Way to Communicate to Us

Saturday - October 2nd

Scripture to Read Today: Hebrews 1:1-4

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through

the prophets at many times and in various ways,

but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son,

whom he appointed heir of all things, and

through whom also he made the universe.

Hebrews 1:1-2

God has communicated to humanity in many different ways over the millennia. He walked with Adam and Eve in the cool of the evening daily before they fell to temptation (Genesis 3:8). God talked to Moses from a burning bush when He called Moses to lead the Israelites from Egypt to the promised land (Exodus 3:1-11). He directly led the Israelites on that journey by a pillar of smoke during the day and a pillar of fire by night (Exodus 13:21-22).

God spoke through a donkey to a wayward prophet (Numbers 22). He warned kings through dreams (Genesis 41; Daniel 2). He communicated through handwriting on the wall (Daniel 5). God speaks to us regarding His presence, power, and beauty through all of creation (Psalm 19:1; Romans 1:20). In numerous passages in both the Old and New Testaments, God spoke through angels (several times around the birth of Jesus). And of course, God has spoken to us through His written, inspired Word - the Bible (2 Peter 1:19-21).

In the many wonderful and incredible ways God has revealed Himself to humanity over the millennia, the writer of the Book of Hebrews opens this New Testament book describing the best way God has ever communicated with us. The writer of Hebrews says that God's ultimate word to us is His Son. "In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe" (Hebrews 1:1-2).

While donkeys, burning bushes, stars, pillars of cloud, handwriting on the wall, and even the Scriptures are incredible and wonderful ways of God communicating to us, the incarnation of the Son of God tops them all. What could be more powerful or personal than God walking among us in human flesh (John 1:14)?

In His mission to earth, Jesus came to rescue us. In His life, He became our living example. He became the pattern of what God intends for each of us. When we know God through Christ, God then seeks to mold us and shape us into the likeness of Jesus. Therefore, the Living Word should be seen in us more and more. The best way for God to communicate to us is through His Son living among us and then being seen through us!

Part of listening to God is passionately and daily pursuing being like Jesus - the Living Word!
