What Now?

Saturday - November 7th

Day 7: Attitude of Gratitude

Scripture to Read Today: 1 Peter 2:9-17

Show proper respect to everyone,

love the family of believers,

fear God, honor the emperor.

1 Peter 2:17

In the middle of the confusion, disappointments, frustrations, and accusations of this election week, I am so thankful God has not left His children adrift. We do not have to be tossed around emotionally by any of the political stress our nation now faces. We do not have to wonder about what our response should be. In several places in Scripture, we are given our responsibilities regarding our role as citizens of Heaven living on earth (and in the United States).

One passage that establishes that this world is not our home is 1 Peter 2:8-17. It also gives practical ways to act in this world as citizens of a place far beyond this world. This past weekend at Calvary, I preached a message entitled, "When we wake up Wednesday..." It focused on what God would have us do the day after the election as His children. Verse 17 gave us clear commands for living in this world as pilgrims of Heaven. I thought today it would be to 1) thank God for this instruction and 2) review them so we can walk in obedience to our God.

No matter what one side or the other says politically or whether what you wanted to see happen politically occurred, follow these commands from 1 Peter 2:17 today:

  1. Show proper respect to everyone

  2. Love the family of believers

  3. Fear God

  4. Honor the emperor (president or president-elect)

In all of our time's tensions, God's people need to respond with obedience to Christ, not the same way the world does!
