"When We See Christ"

Sunday - March 21st

Sunday Devotionals Based on the Story Behind the Song

Scripture to Read Today: Titus 2:11-14

Waiting for our blessed hope,

the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.

Titus 2:13

Esther Kerr Rusthoi wrote the hymn “When We See Christ” in 1941. She was a church musician in Southern California. Her life was marked by tragedy and pain. All who knew her said she suffered long and hard.

In all of it, she kept her focus on the Lord. She longed to see Him and be free of the burdens of this life. Friends said that this song had not one pivotal moment, but a lifetime of suffering that birthed it from Esther’s heart.

Some know the song as “It Will Be Worth It All.“ Esther Kerr Rusthoi succumbed to the pain and suffering of this life in 1962 at the young age of 53. In the moment her physical life ended, her long journey with trials and tribulations ended as she entered eternal life with her Lord. With all that she experienced, God gave her peace today and hope for tomorrow.

She looked forward to seeing her Savior. She wrote the beautiful main line of her wonderful hymn full of hope: “It will be worth it all when we see Jesus.” Paul described the second coming of Christ as "Our blessed Hope" in Titus 2:13. Our hope will be realized one day when we are with Him!

No matter what we experience in this life, it will be worth it all when we see Jesus!

Enjoy the lyrics of this great hymn:

Sometimes the day seems long, Our trials hard to bear. We´re tempted to complain, to murmur and despair. But Christ will soon appear to catch his bride away! All tears forever over in God’s eternal day!

It will be worth it all when we see Jesus! Life’s trials will seem so small when we see Christ. One glimpse of his dear face, all sorrow will erase. So, bravely run the race till we see Christ.
